WHERE, Guestbook

“Innovation in technology and sustainability are re-imagining every aspect of our lives, but the revolution has largely left the American home behind... until now. The city has also inspired some of the world’s most important residential architecture and with its bold aesthetics, new technologies and commitment to sustainability, Bridge House continues that heritage.”

Roger Grody, Editor-in-Chief

BRIDGE HOUSE

Situated on a truly unique urban site with a natural running stream, this project set out to seamlessly unify nature and architecture through a livable, net-zero home—reviving the ethos of the Case Study House movement. The goal was to demonstrate how ecological responsibility and contemporary design can coexist without compromise in a passively designed, high-performance residence.

Constructed with a modular system made of 90% recycled steel, Bridge House significantly reduces its initial carbon footprint while minimizing construction waste. Every material was carefully selected for sustainability, and the structure exceeds energy code insulation requirements by more than double. A robust photovoltaic system powers the home, making it entirely energy self-sufficient.

Soon after its completion, the residence opened its doors to the public, hosting events, exhibitions, and guided tours for over 1,000 visitors. The project drew support from nearly 65 international brand partners, who contributed more than $2 million toward realizing this forward-thinking design. Recognized not only for its innovation but also for its neighborhood impact, the home became the first modern residence to receive the Landmark Award from the Windsor Square/Hancock Park Historical Society in 2021. It stands as a model for the sustainable homes of tomorrow.

Modern house with large glass windows, interior dining area and artwork visible inside, surrounded by lush green trees and a landscaped yard.
