WHERE, Guestbook

Innovation in technology and sustainability are re-imagining every aspect of our lives, but the revolution has largely left the American home behind... until now. The city has also inspired some of the world’s most important residential architecture and with its bold aesthetics, new technologies and commitment to sustainability, Bridge House continues that heritage.”

BRIDGE HOUSE

CHALLENGE

To unify nature and architecture through a livable, net-zero home on a truly unique urban site with a natural running stream.

To renew the Case Study House movement, exemplifying how ecologically friendly
design can be integrated seamlessly, without compromise, in a passively designed package.

SOLUTION

Built using a modular structural system comprised of 90% recycled steel, Bridge House significantly reduces its initial carbon footprint while minimizing construction waste. The home relies on an extensive PV system

to generate electricity, and its insulation exceeds required performance by more than 2x code requirements. It is built solely with sustainability sourced materials.

OUTCOME

The home was open for events, tours and exhibitions within months of its completion; more than 1,000 people visited, experiencing what a net-zero home of the future could

be. Nearly 65 international brand partners contributed more than $2 million toward the project’s realization. All strove to share the lessons of Dan’s forward-thinking design and ecology initiative. In 2021, the Windsor Square/ Hancock Park Historical Society bestowed Bridge House with its Landmark Award, recognizing the home’s prominence in the neighborhood. It was the first modern home to receive such recognition.
