FLIP FLOP HOUSE

Designed to be both practical and environmentally conscious, this residence stretches across the horizon with expansive panoramic views while also providing ample wall space for the client’s art collection. The architecture achieves a refined minimalist sophistication, with a façade that subtly deceptive in its simplicity, revealing a complex interplay of volumes through protruding and recessed floors and ceilings.

At the heart of the design is an inventive “breathing” façade composed of four dynamic 8’ x 9’ pivoting walls. These elements adapt to offer changing views, adjustable privacy, natural ventilation, and dedicated gallery surfaces—blending utility with visual intrigue.

The home’s massive cantilevers not only facilitate ample outdoor balconies, but they act as protective shading elements. Movement is embedded in every aspect of the design, from spatial flow to shifting light patterns and carefully chosen materials, resulting in a home that feels both grounded and alive.

Following its completion, the project became a local architectural touchstone, inspiring nearby developments to adopt similar minimalist principles. Its impact also led to the commission of four additional eco-friendly homes in the same neighborhood.
