FUNKE BEVERLY HILLS
Located in the bustling commercial heart of Beverly Hills, just across from City Hall and the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Funke transforms a historic Art Deco building into an evocative and experiential hospitality destination that is both historic and modern. The program spans three stories and over 10,000 square feet, encompassing three bars, two dining rooms, a private dining room, an amaro bar, a main bar, and a rooftop terrace and bar.
Working within the tight confines of the existing structure posed extreme technical and programmatic challenges, including the integration of a world-class kitchen, mechanical ducting, and venting, all while adhering to stringent building codes. Special attention was given to flow, circulation, and accessibility, ensuring a seamless spatial and design experience throughout the multi-level space.
As a result, the design of Funke is a vibrant, modern, and fresh interpretation of an Italian dining experience. Beginning with the elegant Art Deco façade, design cues are carried into the interior to create a cohesive and immersive environment. The experience unfolds like an old-world Italian city—narrow, meandering spaces suddenly open into grand, lively rooms. Guests enter through a soaring lobby beneath a wood-beamed vaulted ceiling, flanked by a marble-clad amaro bar and a glass vitrine pasta lab where handmade pasta is crafted throughout the day. Across from the pasta lab, the double-height main dining room features Loro Piana wall treatments and a bespoke installation of over 270 hand-blown Murano glass pendant lights, each individually lit to softly glow and twinkle. Throughout the space, craftsmanship and innovation merge to evoke a luxurious, transportive atmosphere.
