Nestled into the rugged terrain of Los Feliz, the Oak Canyon Residence emerges as a dialogue between material permanence and spatial openness—a private sanctuary conceived for a music producer who demanded both creative refuge and seamless connection to the California landscape.

The home is organized around a central outdoor living axis: a recessed conversation pit anchored by a linear fireplace dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, while a long reflecting pool threads through the site, linking the public and private realms with quiet precision. Board-formed concrete defines the primary structural language—massive, board-marked walls that read simultaneously as architecture and topography—while warm cedar cladding and horizontal wood louvers on the upper level temper the rawness with human scale and solar control.

At grade, the kitchen, dining, and living spaces open entirely to the pool terrace through floor-to-ceiling glazing and sliding walls, erasing any distinction between inside and out. A monumental rough-cut stone wall punctuates the courtyard, grounding the composition in the site's geological character.

The bedroom suite is elevated to the second level, set behind deep wooden louvers that offer complete visual privacy while preserving filtered light and cross-ventilation. The master suite, two additional bedrooms, and a family room are organized along a linear bar that floats above the landscape, with only a sculptural stair tower—rounded in plan, raw in finish—connecting the two worlds.

This is a house that listens as much as it speaks: calibrated to the rhythms of both music and nature.
